Hi Guys!

I haven’t posted for a while because I’ve been so busy… first of Happy New Year to all readers, a little late but not forgotten lol

In the past two days I encountered a problem with the audio on my HTC Desire HD and I was freaking out as I love my phone and I didn’t want anything to be wrong with it!

The issue was to do with the sound. Somehow every other sound but the ring volume was very low (Audible Touch Tones, Audible Selections, Keyboard Clicks) – you could hardly hear them.

I contacted HTC Technical support and the guy walked me through the basic stuff which I already tried anyway before I called – I’m very aware of the standard troubleshooting process by now lol

The guy told me to change the volume settings even though they were on the highest. Anyway he was not able to figure out what the cause could be so he said he would do some research and call me back in 30 minutes. So he did, and it was good to know that someone can keep their word from technical support :) however he did not have a solution, and we spoke about a hard reset but I was concerned as to what would happen to my purchased apps and games from the market.

He said he would have to escalate the issue to another department as there were no known issues at this point, and said if it was a bug it could be fixed via a patch or something.

While he was doing his research – I did mine and found out there are a few other people that seem to be having similar issues around the world, so I tried to look for an application in the market to see if there would be something that would allow you to adjust the volume manually and boom there it was :) I am so happy that this issue has been fixed. I don’t know how it happened but it did, and I am glad that it is all fixed. It was most likely a system bug in Android.

I wanted to share this with you all just incase any of you are experiencing the same issue. The application is called AudioManager and has more settings for the volume of the phone than the settings control panel. It turns out the ‘system volume’ as it was called in the app was set to very low, which explains the issue of the very low sound.

Hey Guys

Just a quick post to let you know I have discovered a bug in the HTC Desire HD software.

This bug has to do with the camera – while taking photos (especially with effects) if you take a few photos one after another (let’s say 10 or more) the phone just turns off completely. You cannot turn it back on unless you remove the battery and put it back it (and this is such a pain to do)

Hopefully this is something HTC is aware of and they are already working on a fix and if they are not aware of it maybe they can read it here lol

Thanks

Vlad

First Impressions

As I opened the box I was really impressed by the screen size. The size of the phone is actually the same size as the image on the box itself but at first I didn’t think it could be that big. It’s big, its quite big, so if you have a problem with phone sizes this phone is not for you. Try it’s little cousin the HTC Desire.

The phone comes with a USB Cable, USB AC Adapter, and Headphones as well as lots of paperwork and an 8GB MicroSD already fitted into the phone just like the battery. The software (HTC Sync) is preloaded on the microSD card and you can access that once the phone is connected to the computer.

I must admit it took me a while to open up the battery cover as I was partly afraid of braking it! I have  to state that this is probably the worst battery cover I have seen on a mobile phone. The phone comes locked to the Vodafone network but it says on a bright red sticker that you can get a free unlocking code via their website, which takes about 10 days…

Overall I immediately noticed that the phone has had several improvements to the user interface – some of which I will talk about in more depth later on.

The one thing I’m disappointed in is the speakers. Both the external speaker on the back and the ear piece are not loud enough. Not sure whether this is a hardware thing or something that could potentially be fixed via a future software update. I have noticed that even the ear piece is not as loud as the HTC Desire.

The volume rocker keys are a bit hard to press sometimes and as the phone has no dedicated physical camera shutter key it is a bit hard to take photos with one hand at times because of its size and you always have to press a capture button on the screen.

Well this is all for Part 1 as I’m very tired, hopefully I will get around to writing Part 2 tomorrow or the next day.

Stay tuned as I will cover the main changes in the OS and the Apps.

Cheers

I had so much drama getting my hands on one of these babies but at last I got one and that’s what makes me happy!

I will have to tell you the story in my next post. I’ve got a Desire HD (DHD) review planned for the next few days after I have had some time to play with it and discover all of its new features.

So far I like what I see and I can tell you there has been some good improvements.

The one thing I didn’t like almost instantaneously is the battery cover. Damn it is so hard to take out and put back in LOL or maybe it’s just me… hahaha

Stay tuned for the full review coming in the next couple of days.

Well guys it seems like its finally going to happen!

I have been following Vodafone_AU on twitter and asked them when the stores are going to be getting the phone as the official launch is set for tomorrow and they have replied saying that stores should be getting them tomorrow.

Prior to messaging Vodafone_AU on twitter I rang around a few stores and they all seemed clueless and said that they havent received any info when they would be getting the phone… so how are stores meant to have the phones in stock tomorrow?

Interesting… only time will tell.

BUT, hopefully this time tomorrow I will have a HTC Desire HD in my hands :)

Cheers

It’s been a while since the last Facebook for Android release compared to how often they update / add features to the iPhone version.

We (Android fans) are now a step closer to the iPhone loving people. We can now check in, as places is one of the new features of the Facebook 1.4 Version.

According to the latest post on the Facebook blog > [ http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=446167297130 ] there are three main changes.

The new Android 1.4 update includes the launch of Places and Groups.  With the launch of Places, you and your friends can now check in to your favorite restaurant, museum, business or any other location from your Android phone.

Following on the heels of our launch of Groups on Facebook.com less than a month ago, you can now access those same groups from your Android phone. Create a group for your poker buddies, and organize an impromptu game this weekend just by messaging the group from your phone.

Android 1.4 also includes a refresh to the notifications application, one of the top requests from our users. Clicking on a notification now won’t send you off to the browser. Instead, as long as that notification has an appropriate destination within the application itself, you will be taken there.

Images below are from the Facebook Blog.

Not only there are a few bugs with the Froyo 2.2 update but my Android has been crashing quite often.

Click on the image to the right for a full view.

I will try and take a photo of all crash issues in the OS.

Hi Guys

I got in contact with HTC today and told them about the issues I have been experiencing since the update to Froyo and the removal of the Settings Restore Function.

A HTC rep wrote down my issues and said they would call me back within an hour. After the call back they told me that the restore function has been removed, but she could not say for what reason ? It seems a bit odd that this feature has been removed and customers have lost a lot of data like their sms messages. In regards to the bluetooth and gps issues I was told to take my phone in to service for it to get tested.

After this I also submitted my bug report via email to see what HTC will say.

Hopefully these issues are just software bugs and it will be fixed shortly.

Will keep you posted.

Hi Guys

I’ve had some time to play around with my HTC Desire after the update to Froyo 2.2 and I have noticed a couple of bugs.

1. Bluetooth – After connected and disconnecting to a bluetooth device – whether it is a loudspeaker or home theatre system the phone seems to freeze up, after tying to enter the menu it shows an error message (which I didn’t get a chance to write down) and then my phone restarted. This has happend twice since the update to Froyo 2.2 and it has been 2 days since. I did have a similar thing happen to me on 2.1 but only once and the phone did not restart.

2. Privacy Setting – Seems to be missing from the settings menu, but can be accessed by searching for it.

3. GPS – I have managed to get a GPS Position but it has taken a very long time for it to get a lock. It used to only take a couple of seconds. I believe they may be a bug with this as well.

4. Weather Widget – From time to time all the data from the weather widget disappears and its blank.

[UPDATE]

5. SMS Bug – I just discovered while trying to send an SMS which was longer than 320 character – I didn’t get a notification to say that it has been sent even though the option is enabled. No sound, or notification in the status bar. I tried to forward the same message to me, and It arrived a few minutes later. It used to be quite instant previously.

6. No Restore Function – Previously when updating firmware / ROM Android would prompt you to restore your data from an SD card. With the installation of Froyo you seem to lose everything. It doesn’t prompt you to restore your settings. I lost all my contacts and messages.

It would be interesting to know if any other people are experiencing same/similar issues. Hopefully this is just a software bug and HTC/Telstra will do something about it very quickly.

On the other hand Vodafone have just started to take orders online for the HTC Desire HD and I’m contemplating whether I should order one online or go and do it in store. I’m really excited about the sense.com featrue.

Go HTC!!!

I’m really tempted to get one lol

I don’t know whether it’s just me but I tried to use the GPS today and It was taking a long time trying to locate me, and then I gave up. Prior to Froyo it only took a couple of seconds especially with the help of the mobile internet connection. It would be interesting to hear if other people are experiencing this.

At last!

It’s official – The long awaited froyo update for the HTC Desire has been released in Australia on Telstra’s network. It took a while but at least its here. It’s been two days since the official update release and even though downloads were extremely slow during the first day – I managed to download the update after several attempts through different HTC servers.

Ok so what does froyo do?

Well froyo gives the HTC Desire a new version of the operating system – Android- in simple terms – the same phone can now do so much more after the update.  [ For a full list of features that Froyo brings check out the official android developer website > http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.2-highlights.html ]

What you get:

  • Voice dialing over bluetooth ( I have tried this using a Blueant S4 and Vlingo – available from the Android Market )
  • Applications on external storage – SD Card* ( This is not available for all applications as some developers have not enabled that option in their applications, but there are work arounds on a few web sites which show you how to force install all applications onto the memory card by default. )
  • Multiple Keyboard Languages
  • Mobile WiFi Hot Spot – You can now use your mobile phones 3G connection for internet access on your WiFi enabled computer. (Awesome!)
  • Numeric PIN Lock – You can choose between PIN lock or the Swipe Pattern.
  • The overall OS is meant to be faster
  • The addition of 720P HD Video recording
  • As well as other tweaks and additions that are probably not that fascinating lol

Issues/Problems:

There are many reports that users have not been able to update their software using Windows 7 or bricking their phones after the update process. [Please read comments on  http://ausdroid.net/2010/10/26/froyo-for-telstras-htc-desire-available-now/ for more information. ]

My phone update without any issues and it went quite smooth, even though I was scared after reading all those comments I still wanted to give it a shot. I used Windows 7 and had no issues whatsoever, although to initiate the installation I right clicked on the ROM image file and chose “Run As Administrator” – I’m not sure whether this made a difference or not, but Windows is known to cause problems with its limitations and restrictions.

The update wiped all my contacts, messages, bookmarks and even my custom APN settings. I didn’t do a backup because I thought that the device did an automatic backup every time you turned it on/off.  It took me a while to get the APN working as I am with Vodafone and also in a crappy coverage area too.

One issue I had was with the bluetooth, and I also had this on 2.1 – I’m curious to know whether there are any other users out there experiencing the same problem. On 2.1 I had the phone freeze on me after using bluetooth for a while and then switching it off. Similar thing happened yesterday after using 2.2 and turning bluetooth off – the phone itself restarted. Hopefully this was a one off this and the phone needed to refresh itself, but HTC needs to look into this.

I thought that there was a backup / restore function somewhere in the settings, but now I can’t find it. I might have been dreaming lol

[UPDATE ] – “The Privacy” is where the backup options lives and it somehow appears to me missing from the menu – I did a google search and there are other users reporting that the privacy option doesnt exist in their menu, but it shows up if you search your phone for privacy. Hopefully this is just a bug and will be fixed quickly.

The 720P Video is not the best as well, I feel that it lags a little bit, I have to try it in good lighting conditions.

Thanks for reading – and LONG LIVE ANDROID! :)

As i was driving home yesterday it was raining and i noticed a rainbow as i was getting closer to my house. As i got out of the car I noticed it was a full rainbow, something that i have not seen in real life, so I had to recorded it :P

It was just amazing!

I am really excited as I have just read Vodafone’s blog and they have just announced that they will be carrying the HTC Desire HD :) )) Being a huge fan of HTC and a proud owner of a HTC Desire – I think I have found my next PERFECT phone and now that I am out of contract with Vodafone I can grab this phone as soon as it comes out. I can’t wait!!! Vodafone have not yet released an official date – but have stated later on in the year – and there are only 3 months left till the end of the year!!! :) Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later. C’mon Voda do something good for once and release this phone asap!!!

Hi guys!

I have been a bit absent lately, I have had very little time and I have kind of forgotten about the blog, but I am back now and I wanted to share my latest story with you.

To sum it all up – I finally got rid of my Troublesome Nokia N97 – and I cannot tell you how good it feels!

I basically had to make a formal complaint as I was not about to go to the Nokia Service Centre for the 4th time. The guys there are useless and simply don’t care about the customers.

So big thanks to the TIO and My Network for helping me out with this situation.

I’m officially off my contract and I am free to upgrade to a new phone.

I’m very skeptical about getting an iPhone 4 after having spent 3 hours in an Apple Store with my friend who had problems with his iPhone 3G. There was a few guys that came in store with problems of freezing and crashing. Even though I secretly kind of want one… lol (Shhh don’t tell) I’m resisting to get one.

I hope HTC brings out another amazing Android Beast that is the most feature packed device on the market. (Hurry up HTC – I want a new phone! :P ) But I still love my HTC Desire, I just wish it didnt have all the crappy Telstra icons inside the menu that you cant get rid off – they are useless.

Anyway thanks for reading guys

Cheers & Stay Tuned for more.

:)

I am so excited! I just bought my first Digital SLR camera and I am amazed by the images. I have only taken a few test shots and I hardly know how to use all the features that an SLR has but it’s never late to learn.

Scored a good deal $$$ wise and I’m very happy. I might do a review soon and compare some photos with different cameras.

Here are some test shots that you can have a look at.

Stay turned for more

Thanks for reading
